Trivia
- Patrick Stewart was spotted for the part by producer Bob Justman. Gene Roddenberry took some time to be persuaded, as he still wished to cast a French person in the role.
- The rock band The Refreshments had a minor hit, "Banditos", on their album Fizzy Fuzzy Big and Buzzy. The chorus of the song refers to Picard.
- In 2001, the artist Darkmateria released "The Picard Song", a string of Picard and TNG quotes, set to a techno beat in a manner to sound as if Picard is rapping. The song spread across the web very quickly, also spawning several parodies and tributes, the most famous one being on YTMND. Also based on the song is a Flash animation created by Jeremy Lokken. A more recent (released on 7 September 2005) innovation of the song is a Machinima film created in the popular computer game The Sims 2 by Brian Castro.
- Picard keeps a Lionfish, called Livingston, in the spherical aquarium in his ready room (TNG: "The Naked Now").
- "The Picard Maneuver" was an on-set nickname for actors' adjustment of their costumes when the material bunched up on their torso. This is also a phrase used in the series to describe a starship combat maneuver.
- Both Captains Kirk and Picard are mentioned in the lyrics of "Weird Al" Yankovic's song "White & Nerdy", which also references the Klingon language, and a thinly veiled reference to Picard's preference for Earl Grey Tea.
- A common mondegreen (misheard song lyric) is "Captain Picard on the New Jersey Turnpike," from the Simon and Garfunkel song "America". (The actual line is "Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike."
